Good Morning, I have several Model 88 Winchester lever rifles and would like to have one chambered in 7mm-08. Does anyone have knowledge of a gunsmith that will attempt a rebarrel for these rifles?

Was just talking to a friend last night about barreling jobs and I'm pretty sure he said Pac Nor will barrel Model 88's. Here's their website give them a call to find out:

" PAC-NOR does barrel Ruger models 1 and 3 but does not rebarrel other lever actions, slide actions, or semi-automatic rifles." FROM PAC NOR WEB SITE

Nope not going to happen

My friend has a couple of these and really likes them. I'm not intimately familiar with the design, but if the re-barreling is difficult because of some integral feature on the barrel, it would be an excellent candidate for a re-bore. Take a .243 out to 7-08. I'd start with Clearwater Reboring. It this case I bet it would be cheaper than a new barrel.

Was talking to my friend about PacNor and he was under the impression they would barrel a Model 88 Winchester when in fact they make a pre fit barrel for it. This is the description of a pre fit barrel:

Prefit barrels have gained acceptance with gunsmiths in the U.S., as well as most foreign countries. The prefit barrel comes to you with a short thread shank to be set back for proper head space; completely contoured, polished, handlapped, threaded, chambered, crowned, headspaced, and fitted to the action. (All prefit barrels should be fitted and headspaced only by a qualified and competent gunsmith.)

If you have the required skills and tools you can do this yourself.

I apologize for the misunderstanding in this situation.
