Some folks swear by their Weatherbys and some swear AT them.....there's none in my house and I've owned a few.....I keep coming back to the M-70.....

I've been trying to get my 257 Wby to shoot less than 1.5" consistently for the last year and a half. If it wasn't for the sentimental value, I would have sold it long ago. Not slamming Wby, they are beautiful guns, but this is just my experience. One that I will never repeat.

4-6 weeks??? That's crazy! I understand that you probably don't want to have to fool with doing a repair on a new gun but if you just want the gun fixed call Weatherby and tell them what happened and they'll send you an extractor and it should be there in a couple of days. I've had to replace the extractor on my Mark V twice. I think it's the weak link in the gun. The first time it broke under normal use because they had a bunch that weren't hardened properly and the second time around it was because of a hot load. Anyway, changing out the extractors in the Mark V is a cinch. It only takes a few minutes.

Luckily, I have yet to break an extractor on my Weatheryby's. I feel for the guy trying to get his 257 to shoot well. I spent well over a year to find a load that my 338-378wby liked. Thank god it finally took to an "X" bullet.

Jethro: I own 5 Weatherbys, including a 257 (my favorite). If your rifle does not shoot under 1.5", you need to let Weatherby know. They will make it right. I also own Model 70s and Belgian Browning Safari grades and one of the Ruger Safari Magnums. The Weatherbys are the most consistently accurate of the bunch. jorge

DJ: wouldn't mind it at all. I know they are great rifles, I'm just one of those guys that got brainwashed by Weatherby as a kid with those fancy "Weatherby Guides" and that's all she wrote. I did one a Sako once though, one of those safaris in 375. Nice rifle, but it wasn't very accurate, which is most unusual for Sakos, but apparently not for that specific model. jorge

I'm glad my extractor wasn't weak on my 257. I had to use a mallet to open the bolt a while back after an error in judgment on my part on the loading bench. Trying to get 110’s to shoot as fast as 100's. My initial appeal to Weatherby's was they shoot faster and look fancier and were expensive compared to the average 700, m77, Savage and at a young age they were perceived as a status symbol. We after owning a couple of them I found out that they really are a cut above the others. Some things like the way the lugs are the same diameter as the bolt tightens up the bolt slop so they act like a double sleeved Remington custom. Mine act almost like target rifles. Every other rifle except for my Ruger Varminters needed some tweaking to get them to shoot but my small 2 gun collection of Weatherby's are shooters out of the box and they walk on most guns in the horsepower department. Big cartridges can be loaded to be as pleasant as any little cartridge but little cartridges will always be just little cartridges. I would love to change out all my rifles for Weatherby’s.
