I just ordered the parts to repair my single shot H&R topper 58. (striker and lifter assembly & spring) Are they awful inside or something that can be done by a fairly mechanically patient person? Any special tools to do it? Any help or tips would be appreciated. Flinter

I recently built a new fireing pin for mine. Installing it was a piece of cake. Just drift out the pin, replace the parts and put the pin back in. I didn't take it apart any further than that, but I'm thinking it can't be that hard.

Taking the guard out of the H&R is easy. You punch out the two cross pins.

Then things get bad.

To reassemble you will need two slave pins to hold the parts in the guard so the cross pins can be reinstalled.

A slave pin is a slightly undersize pin which is just shorter than the width of the guard.

Also the lifter can be installed backwards.

One time I had a guy bring in two H&Rs and a couple of coffee cans. He had taken the first one apart and, when he couldn't get it back together, took the other one apart to try a figure out how to reassemble the first. Interesting technique but it didn't work for him! Tread lightly. Regards, Bill.
