I'm rebarreling a rifle to .45-70. The box of new loaded ammunition I have has rim thicknesses all over the place. The SAAMI page says ".070-.010", which might be ISO or DIN for ".060 to .070." Surfing around, I find a large number of opinions on rim thickness, barrel-to-bolt space, and headspace clearance for the .45-70. So, since this seems to be the place for .45-70 aficionados, I came here and did an "advanced search" on .45-70 + headspace, but no joy. Are you guys sorting brass by rim thickness, or using enough space for the bolt to close on a .068" or .070" rim? Or...? | ||

The SAAMI chamber drawing lists the depth of cut for the rim as .070 minimum and .077 as maximum. I would keep it somewhere around .072 - .074. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine.
