I have a Beretta 686 White Onyx with a gloss stock which I want to strip and refinish to a hand-rubbed oil finish. I know there are many experts out there. What are the best products/methods of removing the gloss finish? Many thanks. 114-R10David

Welcome to the board. Do a search on stock refinishing, or shiny stock, or gloss stock and you will get more than enough ideas. There ideas on both cutting the gloss and complete refinish. Good luck and let us know how it comes out. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

I recently stripped the glossy finish from an ABolt medallion. Soak it in Citristrip for about 4 days and it comes right off. ------------------------------------ Originally posted by BART185 I've had another member on this board post an aireal photograph of my neighborhood, post my wifes name, dig up old ads on GunsAmerica, call me out on everything that I posted. Either Sitka Deer on 24hourcampfire.com or pdhntr right here on AR are very knowledgable about stock finishing. I'm in the process of finishing a new stock for a custom VZ-24 Mauser and will be doing a Tru Oil hand rubbed finish. The Birchwood Casey website has some pretty good info as well. They are the maker of Tru Oil. Chris

Use some Jaco epoxy striper or go to a body&paint shop supply and get some aircraft stipper. Lay a bunch of old news papaer on your work bench. Wipe and Dap the striper on in one stroke with a paint brush(dont wipe it back and forth, just apply a thick coat). Let sit for a minute or 2 or 3 . Use a bondo spreader and scape/sqeege the gunk off. Scap the gunk off the bondo spreader into a old coffee can. Have some paper towels handy, redo any small areas. Use a tooth brush on the checkering Very fast and easy to do.
