Warnes are garbage, especially the Sako variety. Here's a pic of the Talley system:

CasII Perhaps you could explain why you think they are garbage, having never owned either one I would be interested to know what the difference is. Never rode a bull, but have shot some. NRA life member NRA LEO firearms instructor (retired) NRA Golden Eagles member

Lows work great for a 40mm objective. Talleys aren't known for erring on the low side. These pictures ought to sum up my thoughts on Warne nicely:

PC , Have a look at the Lynx mounts for Sako too . I have a set (came with an A2 in .222 that I bought)and a friend has 2 sets . Reliable , strong , well made and attach straight to the Sako dovetails . Have windage adjustment too . Low model will take up to 50mm objective . Conetrol also make a nice Sako mount but are probably dearer than Optilocks . The original Sako high mounts that were made for the L series will fit the 75 and are the right height for 40mm objective . If you can find some in good condition they are excellent . Not that rare in Oz . Think they were too expensive to manufacture and so got dropped . If starting from scratch I'd get Optilocks and be done with it . Have a vague recollection that I read that the Talley bases use a vertical setscrew to attach them to the Sako dovetails . Believe that it damages the checkering on top of the action . Someone else can confirm or deny . The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood. New Warnes awful, old warnes rare, beautiful but probably not for such a heavy kicker Talleys manage to engineer a solution that single handedly remove the benefits of the sako dovetail. As previously stated they tend to be high. Why do Talley insist on bases - is it laziness or an inability to machine rings for angled dovetails?

Bush Chook would be interesting to know if the Talleys do damage you action ??

Hey, really! You are buying/bought 1 000 dollar rifle and then buy some crap for rings? I really, really, truly recommend that you even try Sako OptiLocks.

PC , As I said you will have to get confirmation or denial from a Sako / Talley owner. Both Talley and Warne's system for attaching mounts to the Sako dovetails leaves a lot to be desired IMHO . I wouldn't have either on my Sakos . Is there a reason that you don't like Optilocks ? I did read that their stainless screws tend to gall when removed . A little Nickel antisieze would stop that I'm sure . BC no reason I just usually like a wider style ring like the warnes rather than the smaller type..............I will check these optilocks out. Plain old leupolds.......steer clear on a 7mm stw ??

They do gall the stippled surface of sakos.

Thanks 1894 . That would stop me buying them . P.C. , I've looked at a set of Leupolds for a Sako L461 of mine . They are very narrow and only use 2 screws . Well finished but I would rather have Optilocks or Lynx . I ended up with an excellent set of original L series mounts which were exactly what I wanted for that rifle . Have a look on the Sako website . the Optilocks are available in a range of styles including quick release . Incidentally if you place 2 (no more) wraps of teflon thread sealing tape around the scope tube before fitting your rings you will prevent scope slippage and tube scratches . I have a set of Warnes on a TRG-S and they have held up fine. They are not the quick release variety though, but permanent. I would not hesitate to use them again and actually have them on several heavy recoiling rifles, no problems. 7.21 Lazzeroni Firebird I also have them on a Weatherby custom in 358 STA, Win Model 70 338 Win Mag and a Win Model 70 300 Ultra Mag. I have not had any problems with them. Again these are the permanent rings not the QR's.
