Does anyone know who is making stocks for the M1999 Action?

Rod Now that you are at Acrabond, perhaps we can get a bit of information on the stocks... I have four M99 actions on order and on at least one of them I want a wood stock and intend to use a laminated stock. I will be building a .458 Lott and currently plan on Jim Brockman building the rifle using one of his laminated stocks with a drop box magazine so that I can get an extra round (5 + 1) in the magazine. I like the idea of the laminated stock because of its strength over non laminated stocks and because normally laminated wood stocks are a bit heavier than non laminated wood stocks. 1) Any reason to assume that the AcraBond stock would not be as strong as a laminated stock done with the standard lamination. 2) Any idea of what a rough shaped blank would weigh? 3) Assuming a middle of the road (as far as the grain of the wood) blank, what about cost. (It looks as if the Acrabond web site is down or I would check myself). GPT

Dan and Rod: Of those companies that are in various stages of working the M1999 in its various lengths and the PH in the future, is there any way to keep us updated as to status of the Stockmakers' progress of bringing these stocks into production. A possibility might be another section on the Montana Web Page that addresses stocks. Just a thought.

Dan, I talked to Ted Blackburn and Sunny hill yesterday in an attempt to get a drop box magazine, hoping the M-70 would fit..don't know and you should give them a call and give them your specs...I cannot find a drop box for a 404 Jefferys to fit your actions. Ted said he would like to talk to you. I told him I would get your number to him, but why don't you just call him at 801-794-3309,,,

Our pattern is complete for the M1999 Long Action in RH and using the latest MRC bottom metal. For close barrel to barrel channel fit, we will need your barreled action as there is no "factory" standards for calibers, like with the big 3. We will be up with LH Longs and both LH & RH Shorts before any of you guys ever see one. The Acra-bond "Monatanan" classic weighs about 34-36 ounces, or about 10oz more than the lightest composite stocks. Send me an email (rod@mountainofdreams.com) for more particulars. Something did happen to the website today. It's hosted by Rifle Magazine and we're checking into it. As far as prices, the stripped down, no frills, basic is $465 including checkering. $395 without. Like automobiles, the price drivers are in the options (forend tips, cheekpieces, grip caps, shadowlines, checkering upgrades). Going up in wood grade is relatively painless because it is not a labor item. Acrabond stocks tend not to chip as easily as the Rutland process and weigh a lot less, about the same as a non-laminated stock. There is no significant strength gain (or loss) through the action area (the weakest point in any stock), but the laminations stiffen and control warpage in the forend superbly well. They also strengthen the grip area significantly. [ 05-02-2003, 09:56: Message edited by: Rod@Acrabond ]
