Several years ago I bought 2 VZ500 (commercial version od the M48 Yugo)actions. They had never had barrels screwed into them so they never were seriel numbered. Some research revealed that these actions were most likely imported by Herters in the '60s. The only numbers are engraved matching numbers on the bolts & receivers in incospicuous areas. I have since assembled 1 of them into a completed rifle. Lately I have begun to wonder about the legal ramifications of having a rifle W/O a seriel number. Also, W/O a seriel number I can not list the rifle on my HO insurance rider nor could I claim the rifle if it were stolen & recovered by the police. I was thinking about stamping a seriel number on the receiver for identification purposes. I have done so on the muzzle loading rifles I have made from blocks of wood, but they do not have the legal requirements of a CF rifle. Any opinions from those that are knowledgable on this subject would be appreciated. GOOGLE HOTLINK FIX FOR BLOCKED PHOTOBUCKET IMAGES https://chrome.google.com/webs...inkfix=1516144253810

If they have any numbers on them use those as serial number.

Some of the most valuable firearms in the world have no serial numbers and they are adequately insured. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

I have at least two commercial Mauser custom rifles with no serial numbers. I never did worry about it. KB ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

You could put an owner applied number on them if you wanted to. For positive Id if you wanted but not needed. There are millions of pre 1968 guns out there with no serial numbers.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Does that make me a gun manufacturer & would there be any legal ramifications? GOOGLE HOTLINK FIX FOR BLOCKED PHOTOBUCKET IMAGES https://chrome.google.com/webs...inkfix=1516144253810
