Howdy. This may not be the right area for the topic but.... I have a Ruger Number 1-B in .257 Roberts, recently purchased for $ 490 WITH Leupold 3.5 to 10x Vari-X 3 optics. The issues: while this was a fair price, the rifle has hairline cracks on both sides of the stock, barely discernable, about 1 to 1.5 inches long, unaffects the function at all. I dare say the stock will ever really HAVE to be replaced to keep the rifle going. The left side of the receiver has a narrow band of pitting where the butt stock meets the receiver. I have FFL and can get Ruger to replace butt stock and reblue whole gun for less than $300. At that point, I would have about $ 790 in the gun knowing that it was a reblue. MY THREE THOUGHTS: 1. Keep the gun and shoot it. It was a fair price. 2. Get the new butt stock and reblue for less than $ 300 and quit worrying. 3. Take that same amount of money and invest in a new one ( I know where one is), keep the scope, and sell the old one for a fair price. Wrestling with this decision, I need some opinions if anyone is willing to share. Thanks, "Bo" Cash, Morganton, NC

if you resell it the cracks will detract from the price you'll get, shoot it

Your trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, and you could have bought a new one or a very good used one for what new stock and all will cost.... Repair the cracks with glassbed, it will be as strong as can be, and just shoot it and enjoy. then you can always sell it cheap and get your money back, not so if you spend a fortune fixing it up....
