This is a two part coating which protects from oxidation and dries to a very hard finish. For example, a wire brusg on a Dremel tool does not scratch it. It is usually used to coat things like polished aluminium eg mag wheels, truck trays etc.

Has anyone tried this as a rust proof coating for chrome moly barrels, actions etc. What results did you get.

Have used the standard product on kit car frames. Haven't used it in other applications.

Standard POR15 is a coating often used on automotive frames and so on. It works well in automotive applications, but has two problems: 1) It is UV sensitive and turns gray when exposed to light over time, and 2) It contains some cyano compounds that must not be breathed when spraying it.

The first may be addressed by the Glisten PC formulation ... but you should check just to be sure.

It is also important to properly prepare the metal surface before spraying.

Have used Gun-Kote on firearms, Have two done that way. One is a match AR-15 and the other is a fine all-weather Pre64 M70 in .338 WM on a McMillan stock. It is tough as hell. The spent deflector on the AR does not show any marks after years and many, many rounds fired. It is a good all-weather coating.

Thinking about doing it on the "practical build" .458 AR.

Mike, I'd love to use GunKote, I once had a can and got great results. he trouble is that it is not available in Australia and, being flammable and/or an aerosol cannot be shipped by Brownells.

regards,

mike
