I have guns made of each ,I was told that carbon was better cause it was harder than stainless.Carbon steel you can cut with a
torch stainless you can't, you must use a plasmark to cut stainless. Also useing a cutting torch you can heat up carbon to a
glowing red and bend it easy.It takes twice
as much heat to bend stainless.Sharpen a carbon knife, then sharpen a stainless knife.
you'll find out the carbon was easier to sharpen .''carbon softer'' what do you think?

There are so many different allows of "carbon" steel, and "stainless" steel, that one can't make any quick and dry statements about the physical and mechanical attributes w/o stating exactly what alloy is being discussed. In addition, hardness is related to the heat treatment of the metal, not solely the alloy.

Blued guns are not made out of carbon steel, they are typically a Cromium Molydmium alloy, 4140 or 4340. The stainless actions are often 416L or 17-4.

I would go with stainless ant time as long as it was proper for the job. Loss less care.
