I recently picked up a Savage long action in 338 Edge. It is a centerfeed model; no floorplate and the mag box is attached to the stock, not the action. The previous owner had "glass" bedded the action. When I took the gun apart I found that the front action screw was only screwed in about two rotations/threads. That is as far as it will go in. Is this enough? What do you feel the minimum should;d be to securely hold the action? thanks Shane

Two threads are not much personally I would try and find a longer screw.

I generally like a screw or bolt to go into a hole at least the depth of its diameter. A 1/4" bolt should engage 1/4" of threads. God Bless, Louis

I will have to see if I can find a longer bolt. I may also redo the bedding s I think that is what caused this in the first place.
