any one know where i can get material on how to checker a stock. too cheap to have it done an to expensive for my handi. want to try it myself. what have i got to lose. checked around an they want $50 to do it. if i screw it up i can always buy a ultra forarm for about the same price i think. forarm is all i want checkered. festus | ||

See if you can get a copy of "Checkering and Carving Gunstocks" by Monte Kennedy at your library. It's an older book but has very good instructions on how to checker. (By the way, $50 doesn't sound out of line to checker a forend). My best advice is take your time and go slow, it's a lot easier to take wood off than to put it back on. Checkering is not difficult, but a pattern can be ruined in a matter of seconds if your concentration wanders. Good luck. | |||
