I've come to the conclusion I'd like a
"commercial" small ring 98.

I suppose I could start with a mexican 1910
or 1936 and have the stripper clip sections
welded up with metal to look commercial?

Or as someone suggested, a Peruvian could be
welded up and then ground to small ring?

Or would I be better off starting with an
interarms or Parker Hale receiver and having
it ground to small ring with a "boss" on top
like John Westrom used to do?

Any suggestions on what might be the better
course of action?

Instead of welding up the stripper clip slot, you can surface grind he hump off and have custom scope bases made to cover the hole.

Here is one just like Chic suggested I had done recently. I think it looks pretty good.

I really like the way Mark knurled the starter fly-wheel at the back end. How many times do you wrap the pull cord around there before giving it a tug?

I can get a 1936 Mexican, but I also want the
side solid like a commercial, with NO loading
notch. My 1909 Argentino has custom scope mounts that cover the FN contoured top of the
rear bridge. Of course, custom mounts aren't
necessary since the Leupold "modified mauser"
mounts cover it also. These I have on my
1908 Brazilian.

I suppose the Interarms Mark X would do if reground to a small ring having a boss at the top to retain metal for strength behind the
locking lug. John Westrom did this many times over.
