Which front swivel?

I have this FN currently in 270. I'm planning on rebarrel it into a 375PDK. I'm using a #3 Douglas which is basically the same contour as the factory barrel. Installing a banded front sight and leaving the rear as a backup. No rear sight on the barrel. The current front base is noremovable with a metal base. I had wanted to replace it and but a Gentry Streamlined base on the barrel. In the picture the exposed barrel is 11.5" long. The new barrel will have 12" exposed. Opinions on if you thing a band say 1.5" infront of the stock would look ok. Then I would make a plug of some kind to fill the existing hole. Or should I forget the band and install a new front swivel on the barrel?

As usual just my $.02

Opinions? To my style of thinking, the forend looks to be about 12" long. If that's the case, then it's about 3" too long for me.

I would cut the stock off at/around the swivel hole to shorten the forend it and get rid of the old swivel hole at the same time.

That will give you more than enough room on the barrel to make the swivel on the barrel look "right."

You were real close 11.5". I agree it would look better if the forearm were shorter. But then that opens an even bigger can of worms. If I moved it back to the swivel then the checkering is to far forward. I could pick up maybe an inch maybe a little more. Then the stock would need refinishing I would rate it currently about 95% not bad for almost 60 yrs old. The checkering would need to be recut. Currently I believe it is a flat point.

I laid it next to my Whitworth. The stock on it is .25" shorter but I think the tip makes it look shorter. Barrels are the same 23" in front of the action. New barrel is .5" longer.

This red line looks like it might clear the checkering.

Actually the line clips the pattern not to mention the bolt hole.(the line is a neat trick I missed it on your first post) The pattern has a border line that is 1/8" outside the pattern. Due the angle the end point of the border is exactly 1" in front of the main pattern. If that makes sense. Other issue that you can't see is the way the front swivel is currently inlet in the channel. There is the normal round bolt head but it sits in a groove that extend about 3/4" front and back of the bolt centerline. The Swivel is 2.25" from the front edge so best I could do is move the front edge back. About 1.25" and that would leave me 1/4" of wood before the channel. I would still need to plug the swivel hole.

Sure leaning more to needing to just stay with a forearm swivel base.

Here's an opinion:

Looks like a fairly clean, unmolested FN mauser factory sporter. Why ruin it by rebarrelling to an obscure wildcat that no one has ever heard of?

You did ask for opinions.

Yep I have thought of that. I have no use for a 270 and that "Obsure wildcat that no one has ever heard of" happens to me my design. It will fit well with the numerous other PDKs sitting in the safe.

Someone want to trade me a nice stock and action I'd be happy to consider it.
