Anyone know if the factory produced these or if it was aftermarket?

Any information is appreciated.

Yes, the factory made these in single action for the bullseye shooters way back when. When they made them up, revolvers competed on the line with the autoloaders with ease. In fact, I used to see some guys use revolvers for all stages of shooting.

Also there is a "KIT" you can get from S&W that has all the parts to change your K frame to single action only.

Kept one of these for a little over a year on the pistol team for the USS Springfield (CLG-7) We had the K38 Msterpiece single action and the Colt gold Cup forty fives - US Navy property. You had to keep your average up to stay on the ship's team. Pretty good incentive to try hard!

Lord, give me patience 'cuz if you give me strength I'll need bail money!!
