Dear All.I am looking for some help in locating a mini mauser action to build a custom 22-250. I e-mailed empire arms to see if I could get one or where they purchase them but didn't even get an answer! I am in Australia. I have had no luck finding one here and would like to know if any one can tell me were, how and how much it would be to get one.thanks zhaba

I wouldn't recommend running any hot loads through the 22-250 minix. The action is just barely big enough for a .223. When they opened it up for a 22-250, they removed most of the material from the feed ramp to make room to feed. If you are planning on handloading for speed, I'd start with a different action.

I think Brno CZ has a true mini- mauser action.
And there should be more of them in Aust than the Zustava, which as stated is really too small.

The mini Mauser action is not one for a 22-250. The 22-250 is a full size Model 98 action round.
The mini Mauser is ideal for a 222 or 223.

Oh boy have you opened a can of worms.

The recent "mini mausers" were designed around the .222/.223/.222 Mag rim size. Might open to .22/250, but I would not. Too much metal gone. [.223 and .222 Mag can be "improved..." bellmtcs.com has an improved metric that is longer and same rim, too.] SAKO has had a small action forever and I know nothing about them. The mini Mark X were out of Yugoslavia, (now ??? geopolitically...). Chas. Daley handled them. THEN Remington took over. So if you have a Remington dealer. I think it is model 798, but would not swear without looking.

From there... There were full size 98's made with small ring. Saves a couple ounces. There was a Mexican Mauser (made somewhere) that was alledgedly shorter and lighter. Both came with the right bolt face, .0473 inches I think.

You want a .22/250 [GREAT CHOICE!] many, many actions will work, but I wouldn't think that the "mini mauser" would be a good choice. LUCK.

Zhaba,

When Charles Daly was importing the Zastava rifles and actions to the U.S. they cataloged a Mini Mark X set up from the factory for .22-250. As has been pointed out, this is a stretch for the very small action.

Remington, the current importer, is importing the Zastava product as the Remington 799, but I believe it is cataloged only in .223 (and maybe 7.62x39). Whether "Charles Daly" or "Remington", it is irrelavent in Australia since neither is the importer there and I haven't a clue who might be. My guess is that there are some MMX actions for the .22-250 laying around somewhere on the planet, but I wouldn't have clue as to how to get hold of one.

Remington website claims to have it in 22-250

But it's a poor action for that cartridge!

Those little Zatava actions were pretty cheap and hard to make feed unless you worked the real slow..I had a couple of them but quickly sold them...

If I wanted a light sleek varminter or whatever then I would opt for the CZ or better yet for the Sako L-461 and go with the 223 or the 6x45 ( a great all around cartridge )...but the med L-series Sako would make a great 22-250

The 22-250 is a medium length cartridge, on the 250/3000 Savage case.

A customer brought one in with the 22/250 size bolt face & wants it rebarreled to 6mmBR. I'm don't have a warm cozy feeling about this! Especially with no third (safety) lug.

z-hab,

Zastava sold their Mini-Mausers in .222, .223 & 22-250 Remington here in Europe. Both as Right & Left Handed rifles. I purchased a L/H .22-250 Remington thinking it would be the ultimate Roe Deer Death Ray but the 20" pencil thin barrel never delivered the accuracy or the velocity this cartridge is capable of. It's best virtue is that after three rounds the short, thin tube makes a great hand warmer on those cold October & November afternoons!

Like Stonecreek mentioned above the .22-250 Remington is a lot of "cartridge" for that small action. There's no extra space to fiddle around with much of anything including the OAL and the feed ramp is VERY small. Mine works just fine but that due to an significant amount of polishing and elbow greese applied.

Sorry to hear Doug's sentiments above, since I'm considering having mine re-barreld in either 6PPC or 6BR with a Medium-Weight 24" tube.

Cheers,
