I would like to have a high quality, Hart, Lilja, etc., etc. that is going to be wrapped up in carbon. Both for appearance and performance. Accuracy and performance is most important to be though. Thanks... good shooting.

Christensen Arms. Do a search as they have a website.

if accuracy and performance are what matter most to you, then stick with the brands you mentioend and do not mess with carbon wrapped barrels. It will not improve either accuracy or performance and can likely decrease both

If you are set on a carbon wrapped barrel, DO NOT USE CHRISTENSEN ARMS!!!!!! Their wrapping technique actually causes a barrel to hold in heat. Advanced Barrel Systems technique actually keeps the barrl cooler. They also use Mike Rock barrel liners. They can be found at:

Yes, I appreciate the input, and have been all over the ABS website. I also have a desire to try one of Mke Rocks tubes, so it's a no-brainer for me. Thank you all.

That is not true. I load for three guy's that have Christensen Arms barrels in 300 RUM and they dissipate heat just fine. It was a concern of mine but after taking a whole bunch of temperature readings during load development my fears were laid to rest. Jim

I spoke with ChrsitensenArms In Reno.
As an example i asked them: if I bought a RiflesInc superlightweight titanium 700 6.5/284 with its whispy barrel and test target showing a group around .3" what would your wrap do for me?
they explained that it may not necessarily improve that original 3-5shot grouping, but would be likely to assist in keeping a higher number shotstring consistently smaller, than would the unwrapped barrel.
there was not much left to turn off that barrel,so the wraping would have made the original 4.6lb rifle about 1/2lb heavier.

I feel the process dont apply to hunting too much.

Jim-
How were you measuring temperature? Did you have thermocouples inside the bore and chamber where you could measure the metal temperature under the carbon? That is what matters, and an accurate measuring sysytem is required to get good numbers.

Mark, It wasn't all that scientific as I do not have access to all the sophisticated stuff. However just a plain thermometer inserted into the muzzle after three shots showed that it took no longer for the Christensen to cool than did an untreated barrel. I don't think thats a selling point anyway. It's the weight where the big advantage is. All three of these rifles had brakes and Sims recoil pads and were not unpleasant to shoot for units so light. All were accurate beyond my expectations also shooting well under MOA with 240 MK and lots of Retumbo. IMO if you want a wrapped barrel use the one of your choice but don't expect instant cooling. I believe if you ran some tests under strict protocol, you will quickly find that the carbon barrels will hold the heat in your rifle.

As for accuracy and weight, you can get lighter barrels that are not wrapped than the wrapped ones weigh, and as for accuracy, they won't be more accurate and any barrel can get some problems after doing all of that turning on the barrel.

But if you like it, that is all that matters. I think people who like them should buy all they want.

Sure makes a lot of sense to me.

Turn a rifle into a 4-5 pound wonder that kicks like hell, short barrel thinned down. Then put a fkg brake on it and bitch cause it kicks.

Whole lotta sense there.

Far as the wrapping at $450-700, that's gotta be insulation and insulation WILL HOLD heat, it won't dissipate heat, that's facts.
