Has mount for scout long eye relief scope been done by using Mauser 98k rear sight's base on its barrel? If it has, how effective has bee the result? I recently acquired a mint 98k but am unwilling to mutilate it by sporterizing. Replacing an easily replaceable part, I could try. It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. Sam Levinson

What is the code and date of your Kar98K? Just curious. I used one once, B square, with a light red dot sight. I wouldn't trust them with a real scope.

I have the mount but didn't use it, would not fit a Swed. I made my own for the Swed, but it required drill the rear sight "ears"

Perfect, that's how I would have done it too, that scope will never move.

Good mount and excellent instructions for fitting for those non-gunsmiths. Only problem is they are sold out it seems.

Not being contrary but what does the scout have to offer over a 2.5X or 3X Leupold in a Mauser action ??, I always saw it like a grip safety on a 1911!! More of a salvation to a non existent problem. I offer this as a conversation post, not an argument Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

For me, I didn't have to drill into Carl's name.

For purists, the scout mount on the existing rear sight base, eliminates the need to D&T the receiver. This preserves the originality and allows reversion to the original military configuration. Thus, the rifle could be converted back to original military for collectability purposes. Provided the original stock and hardware were retained. With all original K98 k's going for $1k plus, this is a strong consideration. You don't want to convert a $1,200 rifle into a $400 rifle just because you want to hunt with it.
