can anyone recommend a good smith to chamber and rebarrel a remington 700 for me, just looking to get the most for my money, someone who will stand behind his work. has anyone used hart to rechamber and rebarrel a 700?
If you are just wanting a simple rebarrel on a 700 for hunting purposes, you might be best off looking at your local smiths. Get references and go from there.
Failing that (not many riflesmiths here in Ohio) any of the 'smiths that frequent here can probably do the job -- John Ricks, Crafstman, Bill Tompkins, Duane etc.
Hart, Krieger and PacNor are three barrel makers who will blueprint your action and install one of their barrels at very reasonable prices...I'm sure there are others but these three are at or near the top in barrel quality. Go to www.benchrest.com and click on "barrels" for their websites.

I can also vouch for Fred Z., he put my .458Lott together, but if all you want is bbl. work, have PacNor install one of their exc. bbls. I have one on a .280 I just started shooting & it looks very promising.

I've had great results with Pac-Nor and Schnieder re-barreling services. One smith I will recommend is Truman Wilson out of Delta, CO. He is honest, uses decent reamers and does it as a labor of love not your pocket book. sure-shot
I've had both Pac-nor and Hart rebarrel rifles for me and in all honesty Hart did a much better job. I sent dummy rounds to have the chamber throated to with both and Hart got the chamber cut exactly to my specs. Pac-Nor cut the throat .080" longer than I specified, not a small amount. Pac-nor also left the lapping compound on the lugs and lug seats that I had to clean out with carb cleaner before I could use it, this kind of ticked me off because I didn't like the thought of having abrasive grit in my new chamber and barrel. All in all the Hart was as close to perfect as I could have asked (but a bit pricey), it shot tiny groups also. I highly recommend Hart.
