Restoring pre 64 Winchester stock?
I have a pre 64 Win 300HH (1958 model) that's been around the block a few times and the stock needs refinishing. Does anyone know of someone who could refinish the stock like the original? I've though about attempting the finish myself and having someone else recut the checkering.
Thanks in advance for any info or ideas about this.
Regards,
Terry

Try it yourself. Strip with stripper. You might get it dunked at a furniture place. Brush out the checkering with a bronze suede brush. Sand lightly and always with solid backing. Agressive sanding messes up more stock jobs!! Stain with Pilikingtons M-70 stain, from Brownells. Mask off the checkering. Finish with several coats of thinned satin spar varnish. Float it on with a 1" sable brush form the art supply
Put one coat in the checkering. Rub out with automitive rubbing compound and water. Your Done!
