Hi all, I have a Belgian 12ga double SxS with greener cross bolt. The barrel tab(?), that extends back into the action for the cross bolt to go through, is thinner than the slot in the action and lets the gun wiggle just a little when locked up. It is tight as far as being on face. Does anybody have any ideas on getting the tab to fit tighter?
I thought about maybe dimpleing both sides so the raised metal would contact, but I think it would look cheasey and probably wouldn't last too long.
What about cutting the tab off, milling a slot into the barrels and rib, and putting a new piece in? I wonder if solder would be strong enough?
This is the gun that I'm useing for my 470NE project. I have put a couple hundred rounds through it and it is still tight with regards to being on face. It won't close on a piece printer paper.
thoughts?

Here's what I know about doubles and I tellyou right up front I'm not a gunsmith, I do this stuff because I like the guns.

If the action is wiggling from side to side it is not "on face". It may be tight to the breech but any movement means it is not on face. The Greener cross bolt is a third fastener and the gun should be tight even without a Greener. It takes stress from the gun try to break open logitudinally, not latterally
More than likely what has happened is the hook/hinge pin interface has worn and the gun is loose. This used to require a hinge pin replacement, the correct way to do it. Many amateurs have tried peening the hook, (bad idea), or shimming the hook (OK but never lasts).

There is a gunsmith down in Texas I believe that has perfected the process of filling in the hook and refitting it to the pin. I don't have his info right now but if you need it I can find out for you.
