Remove rear-barrel sight base

I just swapped a No.4 Mk.1 Lee-Enfield for a Yugo M48A 8 mm Mauser (Yes, I seem to have an 8 mm preference. Thanks Mr. Atkinson.)

After its disassembly for clean-up and safety check, I've butted against a problem. How to remove rear-barrel sight base? Base itself seems to be soldered or epoxied(??) to barrel. And sight base butts against a lip in barrel. Base must be removed by removing barrel, I think.

I have an inexpensive 8 mm commercial or sporter barrel in my "stuff" closet. I want to render M48A rifle ready to mount one of my NIB Redfield 70 adjustable receiver sights.

I think I have alternatives:
- Keep OEM barrel and have rear sight base removed (HOW?) before reinstalling barrel.

- Swap barrels.
*********
Which of the two is less expensive? Either will, I think, require a gunsmith. Which of the two is quicker?

Because shipping the barreled action throughout the country will be no problem, anyone willing to do what works, please let me know. PM me with direct email and telephone number.

I'd like to have problem solved in the next couple of months - as soon as possible.

They are soldered. Can be removed towards the front w/o removing the barrel. The front sight will have to be removed, and it is also soldered.IIRC,there are set screws that will be needed to be removed first.

This is comforting to read. Are you aware of a gunsmith to complete this removal in relatively short order? I'm in extreme west central Montana if location makes the difference between getting the job done or not.

All you need to do it is a propane or` map gas torch. It's not rocket surgery

Given the high prices being fetched these days for intact milsurps, it might be wiser to sell the M48 Yugo and use the funds to help purchase one of the many Mauser sporters for sale on auction sites. Nice condition M48's sell for north of $500.

Here is a beauty in 30-06:

This looks like it is ready to go with the glass of your choice. By the time you pay for all of the gunsmithing on yours, you'll likely have way more in it. Plus, if you win the auction, you'd have your rifle in time to meet your 2 month deadline.
