Dr. LouFeatherweighht barrel ok of 358 win?
Does Winchester's Featherweight barrel contour provide enough meat to safely use with a 358 bore? I am picking up a Featherweight from DKim and am going to rebarrel to 358 win. and I want to use the factory contour.

Jim_DubellAssuming a muzzle o.d. of .550-.565 (seems to be about the range the factory barrels fall into) the featherweight contour will work fine. We have rebored many .308 Winchesters and .243's to .358's. It does make for a rifle very light on the front end.

Thomas JonesTRhe pre 64 featherweight was so chamberd, I have seen only 1. But It did not apear to have and heavier barrel than other feather weights.

Savage99The Autumn Gun Works has a new factory .358 Win Featherweight barrel for the pre 64 M70.
The .358 Featherweight barrels are the same outside dimensions as the other calibers.
That would be nicer than a rebore.

Dr. LouWill the pre 64 barrel be a direct fit to the new classic action? If not, hard would it be to make it work? What's the cost of the barrel installed?

jeffeossoLou,
savage's 99 had a soda straw for a barrel, so you may find a maker who'll do it. doulgas won't do less than a number2, but... a very light cut on a 2 might work.
a pre-64 358 barrel will set you back a bunch....
but.. there's a way out...
call bauska barrels, between 4 and 5 central, ask to speak to steve... and see if he will turn you a 358 in the pre-64 contour.

<9.3x62>I've handled perhaps a half dozen of the pre-64 FW in 358. They did indeed use the same contour as all the others. Look pretty goofy with that great big hole. The barrels really reminded of 410 barrels...
When they are available, you can get a pre-64 FW barrel in 358 form Numerich for about $135. Should thread right on...
