Remington 30 Express Broken Cocking Piece Help

Hi All
I went to the range yesterday and decided to exercise my old Remington 30 Express rifle in 30.06. I fired 2 rounds without issue. The 3rd round fired but I was unable to open the bolt afterwards. When I returned home, I tore the rifle apart and found out that the cocking piece fractured (see picture).
This rifle cocks on opening. I'm not sure if it was originally this configuration or whether it was converted by a previous owner. The rifle has the early style curved buttplate with the extended toe.
I've been surfing the internet to try and find a replacement part......no luck. I'm not opposed to having this rifle cock on closing. Can I simply purchase a cocking piece for a M1917 as a replacement?
Thanks in advance.

You would need to post pictures of the bolt cocking cam for me to guess with any level of confidence. There were more than one "version" of Remington cock on open built on the "1930".

A 1917 cocking piece will not work.

The rear taper of the cocking piece is slightly different than my model 30S rifle

I can make a new cocking piece for you if it comes to that.
Would need your broken cocking piece to double check some dims

Thanks for the responses guys. Here are pics of the bolt. Hopefully, they show whatever is needed for helping me. Sounds like there a different variations of this part.

You have a later Model 30, one with the guide rib on the bolt body

The cocking cam recess in the bolts ( Model 30 ) were all the same as far as I know.
The depth of the cam from the rear flat of the bolt to the bottom of the cam is about 7/16" deep

After market speed lock cams are all over the place as to depth of cam recess

I would swear that I had at least 2 M30 cocking pieces around from rifles I installed 3 position safeties on, but after nearly 30 minutes of looking, I can't find them.

Once Jim makes you a new one, I'll find them.

Do you think that my best option is to have one made? Since several variations were produced, I have a gut feeling that I will need to go that route.

I would think finding an original is extremely unlikely, but they are out there, somewhere. It'll likely take awhile before one is found.

Jim can make you one, it wouldn't hurt to ask him for a estimate.

You could also install a 3-position safety.

The "best" option is up to you. It's a balance of time and money, and which you prefer to exchange.

I'm going to have Jim make me a cocking piece. I'm going to stick with the original style. I generally don't shoot with scopes on my rifles. This Remington has a very nice aperture sight.

Thanks Ray. I intend to hunt with aperture sights as long as I can. I got a doe this year with my 1899 Reminton-Lee in 30-40 Krag at 65 yards. Last year, I took a 7-point buck at 100 yards with my 1893 George Gibbs Steyr in 6.5 x 53R. Fun stuff!
