Jim@IMRepsCarl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori 1911 Receiver
I have this Carl Gustafs receiver and know nothing about it, can this receiver be safely used to make a 7X57 Mauser, if not what would be the safest caliber to use it for? Should it be sent to Blanchards for re-heating/re-carborizing? Does anyone make a 2 or 3 position Model 70 style safety for this receiver? Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

dpcdBest 96 model receiver made; so yes, perfect for a 7x57. Does not need heat treating.
Yes, Wisner makes the conversion kit for the 96. I like them for things below 45K psi.

sliversEd LaPour makes a nice 3 position shroud with safety, too. Requires a bit more work to fit than the Wisner 2 position does.

Jim@IMRepsI talked to Ed yesterday about his 3 position safety as a matter of fact, during our conversation he said he may have to have some pretty serious back surgery, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

sliversOOOOOOOOOOOO! Back surgery. Not pleasant! But modern methods have made significant improvements,, if you can 'dodge' the staph infection.

Technically, they built the 9,3x62's on 1940's vintage Husqvarna actions, most of which were the so-called "stengthend" actions that lacked a thumbcut.
They did build about 200 on the non-strengthend action. The second from the top is one:

dpcd99 percent of these (the ones in 9.3mm) are 9.3x57, which operates at below 40K psi. I have seen a couple in 62 which runs at 50K psi, and I recommend using starting loads in them. Not because they will blow up, but just to be on the safe side.
