Can anyone tell me the max cartridge length that will fit a Remington 700 Magazine for the .223 cartridge? I'm wondering if a fast twist barreled .223 could be magazine loaded with 80 gr SMK loaded to a COL of 2.55". Thanks, MM

The 700s in .222/.223 usually have a filler box in the magazine. If that is removed you can put longer cartridges in the magazine.

Like Jay says, remove the block in the rear and you have 2.80 inches.Without going downstairs and measuring I'll guess the block is at least a quarter inch. With the block removed your follower will have lots of slop fore and aft but it should work. The block is not welded in so it's a simple matter to remove and reinstall it if it doesn't work.

Coincidently, I measured the block in a 223 M700 ADL the other day, and while I do not have my notes handy, I am pretty sure it was 0.45 inches.
