I have a barreled M48 Yugo action in 8mm.The rifle is in new condition.I was thinking of have the barrel cut back to either 22 inches or 20 inches(as issued its 23 1/2 inches),and mounting a fixed power scope or a peep site.Ideally this would be my woods rifle.Would this type of work be worth the time and money?

Burke,

does the gun shoot well as is? if so

I would suggest you get a smith in your area to lop the barrel off, mill and place some weaver bases, and get a boyds 75 dollar stock and you bed it yourself.

8x57 is a fine caliber

You'll have to alter the bolt handle for scope clearance also. At some point you may want to replace the two stage military trigger. Drop in replacements are available from Timney and others. All done, you should have yourself a nice rifle. Ain't nothin' wrong with an 8x57.
