I don't think you have enough bolt face for this. You should do the 340 Weatherby or the 338 Ultra. Your in the same class of cartridges. M700s do not have enough bolt face for what you want to do. The M70 would, but barely.

The Remington will work just fine. The difference between the Dakota and the RUM is about .012. I'm in the process of doing a slightly bastard version of the 7mm Dakota to a Remington 700 as we speak. It will work just fine. I will be using the excellent HS Precision pro series 2000 bottom metal w/detachable magazine as well as a Sako style extractor. I plan to retain, improve and use, with complete condfidence, the factory trigger.

On the subject of Dakota's I own two of them. One is a 330 built on a M70 Classic and the second is a factory Dakota 97. The M700 will work with the Dakota since the cases are very close in diameter if there is a slight friction fit a very small scim cut can be made to the bolt recess without sffecting it's function. The M70 is no problem at all due to it's slotted bolt face, there is less work involved with the M70. In either case any gun chambered for the Ultra Mag cartridges is suitable with very little fuss. The M70 required a change in mag box to the RUM box along with a new ejector and bolt stop, both inexpensive available parts from Brownell's. In saying all of this I would like to say that I actually use reformed RUM brass for my 300 Dakota and have no problem using it in my rifle, it has reduced my cost of reloading greatly compared to Dakota brass. The new brass from Dakota is made by Norma and is wonderfull. bigbull

Cool. Might have my Ruger .338 reamed out to 330 Dakota. Just for something to do. LD
