I'm sure it has been tryed and probably discussed on this board, but I will ask again. Has anyone here had any experience with necking the .300 WSM up to .416? If so what kind of results did you get? Thanks

The Lazzeroni Maverick, which is the .30 Patriot necked up to .416, should be a very close cousin to the .300 WSM necked up to .416....maybe just a little less as most Patriots should beat the WSM with a 180gr bullet by 50 to 100fps. I would guess somewhere around 2300fps+ for a 400gr bullet and that should be plenty.

Jeremy, I spoke to Mark Bansner (Bansner's Rifles) a few days ago... he's very nice guy. He's doing an entire line of WSM's up to 470... he told me he's getting 2,400 fps with the 510 gr. 470... I don't know the bbl. length and am just reporting what he told me... he's in love with the WSM's... that's not unusual as I'll bet they're generating a lot of business!
Jeremy; The 350 Rem ,slightly improved, and necked to 416 (the 416 Express) will do 2450 in a "long" short action (Model 70 or a med Mauser) with a 22" barrel with 300gr bullets. 360gr hard cast FN lead can be driven to a max of 2350 in my rifles. Since I'm limited to a COL of 3.10(in the Winchester), I've never tried the loooong 400gr's. Bet I could get 2200 or so. You should get more velocity with the 300WSM case - but you'll still have to watch the COL if its in a "short" action. The Express sure is fun to play with!! Try the 416/300.
