African lions- loose in my area

butchlambertAfrican lions- loose in my area
It seems that we have 2 lions loose again in our area. The game warden and sheriff's dept. has had several calls with sightings. Two years ago the sheriff's dept. killed one a half mile from our house. The game warden said it took them 13 rounds with their rifles. We have an old lady about 3/4 miles from the house that takes the cats in and houses them. The state has no jurisdiction anymore and even though the county banned them, she is grandfathered. I hate to think that I have to take a shotgun with me when I fish in our pond, but I do. Of course the old lady says none of hers are missing, go figure. Maybe we need to get Jeffe and his band of bubbas to come to southern Hunt County and take care of this mess. Butch

Have gun(s), will travel (it's not too far).

ForrestBI've met the Band of Bubbas and you do not want to invite them to your county. Here's what would happen: the lion will get clean away, all the housecats will get shot, your county jail will fill-up, and the old lady you mentioned will end up pregnant. Leave well enough alone and let the professionals handle the situation.

Hog KillerButch,
Let's go hunt some big kittys.

We Band of Bubbas could even go up the road and clean up the rest.
A few years ago I missed out on the two tigers that got loose in Cut-n-Shoot, Texas. (45 miles from the house)

Have gun, will travel.

Not everything Forrest said is true.................the lion would not get away

Just say the word and I'll have my huntin buggy on the trailer and behind that one ton........load up boys
On a serious note, yrs ago I hunted with a guy that was scared to death he was going to get ate by a pet lion or large cat that was turned loose or escaped etc. He just knew he was going to run across one on a ranch someday.

What kind of rifles??? Or just poor shooting?? Jim Corbett killed a number of rather large tigers with a 7X57mm ....... I even know of a couple that were taken with a .22 Savage Hi-Power!

Pat B.Damn, and the Lott isn't ready yet!

butchlambertIwish that I had more than 5 acres and the neighbors were further away. I would hang a small goat and wait. I don't have that Lott yet. By the way Jeffe, the wood should be at your house next week for it. Mr. Christman has the barrel chambered, the receiver done. the trigger fixed, and is waiting on the Wisner safety. I think that he has the iron sights in hand. I wish that Mark Lee would get back in touch about the rings. The scope will be here next week. Butch

N. GarrettI was going to mention this topic, but held off for the time being.
I was just in Midway, Texas (near Kerrville), and was hunting on a (low fence) ranch owned by Bobby Love.
Earlier this year, the owner began to see what looked like lion tracks on his ranch. Shortly after that he found several deer that were half eaten, with lion tracks and scat around them.
Bobby was reluctant to tell Fish and Game, simply because he was concerned they would call him crazy.
He did finally call them, and they said: "We know."
Apparently there was a "canned" lion hunt on one of the high fence ranches, and a male got away. He appears to be thriving, and living well on the abundant exotics and whitetail that run free there (last fall Bobby killed an Eland that wandered on his ranch).
In any case, Midway was the last place I heard about the sightings (this was 2 weeks ago).
He is fair game with a $45 Texas exotic tag.

Skinner.I say let em' prosper and give him a couple mates.
Then go to Zimbabwe and live capture a few dozen leopards and sprinkle them around the hill country. I think they'd set a new definition for thrive.

Is that Kerville Kerr county?
I heard similar rumours when I was hunting in near county few years ago

huntingcatGo for it! Those lions will not be seen by bubbas unless they want to be seen. The chances are even better that the human gene pool will be improved somewhat.
Same sort of thing happened in west Texas when I was a teenager with the sighting of a jaguar.
Some bird hunter put a load of bird shot in it and the thing went on a cattle killing rampage north and west of town. The bubbas were stomping around in the mesquite brush for weeks but only found tracks and dead but not eaten cattle.
With african lions, if you are on foot you'r lunch. If you are on a fourwheeler it's meals- on-wheels. A lion will know you are coming miles away. They can probably hear your heart beat 20 or 30 yards away. Go for it!
I've heard they are good to eat though.

butchlambertPete actually I'm eating oatmeal and drinking mineral water. I will try to be more careful with my post in the future. It is a true story though. Channel 4 sent a newscrew out to the county seat last week. Butch

acpchuck45In the Fall '95 we had some similar excitment here in SE Idaho. Just out of Lava Hot Springs was a ranch called Ligertown. They crossed tigers and lions. Turns out the cages they kept these critters in were made of chicken wire which the lions could push through with no trouble. They were seen down at the river getting a drink and all heck broke loose. Area ranchers were on patrol as were the sheriff deputies. Don't remember the final tally but something like 6 to 8 were killed. Then they took the wolves that were there (if it was a meat eater they had it) and relocated them.
Lots of locals swear that at least one or two escaped and were never caught. Not sure they could handle zero degree winter temperatures here though lots of livestock and deer to feed on if they could.
Brings back some memories, especially the local news saying that it was not open season on the lions and people should not go there with their rifles to kill a lion. Parents didn't let their kids walk to school for months. At least no people were injuried.

baboonI was wondering if this lion could be property of Trunks and Humps. This operation got into some shit in 2000 over smuggling an elephant into Mexico. I could be wrong ,but beleive this is the same guy who's nephew had his arm ripped off by a tiger a year or two back.

Not sure about lions, but seeing as Tigers are right at home in Siberia, I doubt the Idaho weather would bother them much...
I don't think the crosses would be able to breed; they'd be like mules ect I assume????

And after you are finished lion hunting, we could put a couple of lion turds in an urn and keep it in the mantle.

PaladinWhile I was working for the Harris Co. Sheriff's Dept (Houston TX) we had a couple of ranches keeping lions. Didn't know about it till one evening one had a lioness munch a keeper and they called us for help! Bet it made for a strange 911 tape.

The incident was out of my patrol area and I didn't get to go.

After that episode, my shift sergeant promoted the idea that we should bring deer rifles to work!
Now I live in West Virginia and the only exotic I've heard of lately was a wallaby that was thwarting all attempts to capture it in Jackson County just north of where I live.
