L. DihelRestamp serial number on a Springfield '03 sporter
Hi All,
I have a Springfield '03 Sporter in 35 Whelen that I plan to take to Africa. The scope bases partially obscure the serial number. Is it a simple matter to have the serial number stamped in a clearly visible location or is there some legal consideration that prevents the restamping?
Cheers,
Larry

Jim KobeNot sure about what country you will be going to but in some they require the S/N to be readily legible. I would just make a cut on the scope base so the number shows better.

jeffeossoStamp it on the barrel, if you are going to have it restamped... that will put the SN on the barrel, and will avoid an BS in RSA as well

zimbabweSeveral years ago when the RSA rules stated you had to have the serial number on both barrel and action I took the precaution and stamped the serial number on the barrel of the guns I was taking. I used very small stamps and stamped it on the botttom of the barrel just ahead of the forearm tip. Unobtrusive but readily readable. They never looked.
