Hi how relaiable and strong these actions are? could be purchased in only action form from ruger for barreling and custombuilding? cheers YES Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

The action is strong and reliable. Some have experienced accuracy problems from the way the forearm and spring interact. There are any number of articles on how to cure this problem. Brownells used to sell the barreled action. I don't think they do any longer. Even when they did you could usually but a complete rifle for about the same cost. Best suggestion I would have is buy the rifle sell the parts you don't need. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Paul hit it on the nose. Ruger will not sell just the action and I don't think that they produce anything other than complete rifles. I haven't seen the barreled actions in a Brownells catalog for several years.

Sure get you an Encore http://www.tcarms.com/firearms/encore.phpor OR NEF .http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Rifles/handiRifle.asp Already set up for swap barrel. Past the Ruger the price will jump as far as I know. I have a Dakota Model 10 25-06. Weights less than 6.5# and will shoot .5MOA with factory ammo. The action is available for Around $1875US http://dakotaarms.com/cgi-bin/..._id=&exact_match=yes As usual just my $.02 Paul K

cheapest way i've found is to look around for a used #1 that the action is sound and the rest beat up. should be able to find one for about 400

If you are planning a full blown metal project you would be better off starting with a Hagn than a Ruger action. NRA Life Member GOA Life Member Distinguished Rifleman President's Hundred

Just wondering how you view the major differance or advantage of the Hagn over the Dakota? I own a Dakota and have only looked at the Hagn. I do prefer the way the spring is within the action vs the #1 in front. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
