Gamecock, I had a similar problem, awhile back.I had to jerk the bolt to eject the empty case. My problem was the pin on the extractor, that engages the receiver bridge. Frank(Kragman71)

Seems like a gunsmith can take care of this. parts are still available to the smiths from brownells and also that outfit out of NY State, ( which I personally have never had to use). I had some problems with my 1898 Krag and a local gunsmith took care of it quickly and inexpensively ( I thought at least). Cheers and Good shooting seafire

Stopped and thought about it, then had to go get one of mine and take a look. With the bolt back, the ejector is up, with minimal vertical play (unless I wiggle it with a finger or something, and it still can't go "down" into the action). When the bolt is removed, the ejector is free to move. If you draw the bolt back and the ejector end comes up, it should eject. If the ejector end doesn't come up (or doesn't come up "enough" to eject the case) then the problem is in the ejector. If it were me, I'd swap out the ejector in a heartbeat. The only other thing I can think it might be is the extractor; if the little pin on top is missing or worn, the extractor might not be camming up at the right point and giving a bit of a hangup.
