Well, Irv can feel better now!

My guy with the hinge pins called me back and I ordered the parts from him.

I might add that he thought the story of Irv's comments was pretty funny...and he totally agreed with my methods of not divulging my source until after I had my parts on order. He's had the same thing happen to him before.

Nice guy and he okayed me posting his name and number on here for anyone who needs US KRAG parts. He said he will normally have at least one of everything in stock...and he still has hinge pins left even after I got my two!

His name is Dan Lowery and his email is: loweryjd@bellsouth.net

Don't have any blue prints or drawings...but I have one I can send you to measure off of.

Easy for me (a non-machinist) to say...but it doesn't look like it would be that hard to make. In fact, I am almost at the point of getting out my handy-dandy files and making one myself if that's my only alternative.

I don't need the long pin...just the pressed on head piece.

If you've never seen one it is pretty hard to describe but think of a tiny 1903 cut-off with a flat piece of spring steel sticking out. There...now isn't that better than blue-prints!

I've never figured out how to post pictures on here...but I'm also still trying to figure out how to use a touch tone phone.

I'll email you and see if we can work something out. I'm willing to pay for someone's time and I can even supply the steel. Once you see the part you may feel (like I do) that it might be easier to make two pieces and silver solder them together. The factory part (the head piece) is one machined piece that is then pressed and peened onto the long pin.

Thanks,

Rick

rick,

try Springfield Sporters 724 254 2626, they list a Krag hinge pin w/o butterfly in their last catalog. (2002)

also S&S Firearms 718 497 1100, antique firearms up to 1898 Krag.

Good Luck,
Bob

Any machinists out there that can advise me about duplicating a small part for a 1898 Krag?

I'm having a hell of a time finding the Hinge-Pins. I bought one from J. DeChristopher...but he only had the one, and I have two 1898 Krags I am building up so I need another one.

I've tried every place I could find that carries parts for Krags and nobody has any of these.

The Hinge-Pin assemblies (they hold the loading door/spring in place) are made up of a straight pin (that's not a problem) and the head piece (that's the problem) that is pressed and peened onto the pin and is used to lock the pin in place when rotated down into a slot on the receiver.

Would it be more practical to have a casting made?

Thanks,

Rick

See that didn't hurt too much. I couldn't understand your
attitude. As you will probably never buy another pin why
deny others (and brag about it).
Take Care!

You know Irv...you are quite a pain in the ass!

If you will take a moment and go back and read my post you will see two things:

1. I clearly stated that I would give the info AFTER I got the part
2. I attached a "grin" behind that statement to make light of it

I would also like you to direct me to the post where I was "bragging" about anything.

Also...How in the Hell do you know what I will or will not buy from anyone in the future?

You're not related to ASS Clown are you?

Hey Rick,
I'll see if I can locate a case of C-rations. We can send it to Irv. For free. Then he'll know what great guys there are on this forum.
Since these parts are getting as scarce as hen's teeth someone will make a run of a couple of hundred and place an advertisement in the Krag collector's newsletter and make a modest, well earned profit.
Irv,
Rick had his ass on the line for our country. You should thank him for that. If you are also a veteran, I thank you for your service. Be happy that his hard work and research is about to pay off.
