Best Recoil pad for light 9.3x62 mm

Im trying to find a suitable recoil pad for a Sauer 202 stutzen rifle in 9.3x62mm, the gun is a bit light for the caliber, 7 lb, and has a short barrel 51 cm. But I just loved the handle and feel of the gun and got it.
Ive been doing some bench shooting to try and find the best load for the gun, and feel that the recoil, although not to heavy is sharp.
There are some old posts about recoil pads, and some say that a pad too soft can be worst than a hard one.
The factory pad is hard rubber, I cant compress it with my hand, and I was thinking about a Pachmayr decelerator pad.
I will need to change pads anyway because the LOP is too short for me.

Please let me know your opinions.

I have Pachmayr Decelerator pads on my Merkel drilling in 9.3x74r, my light Marlin in .45-70-shooting "max" handloads and one all of my synthetic stocked rifles in .338 Win. Mag. After several years of use, they are holding up well and seem to alleviate recoil nicely. I have "Kick-Eez" pads on my .375 H&H rifle(s) and find them rather fragile in rough usage, but, they certainly soak up the smack of the old "ouch&ouch". I hear great things about "Limbsaver", but, have no personal experience with them.

Nsiro,

I have used the Pachmayr Decelerator on my .300Wby., .338 Win.Mag., .375H&H, and .470 Capstick rifles, and I think they are a very good choice.

A Decelerator will take out all the bite.

It is Atkinson that runs around saying a hard pad is better than a soft one. I think he has had one too many rounds, fired off, or at the bar.

Thank you for your answers.

There are two Decelerator pads D750B and D752B in the Pachmayr web page, which one do you use or recommend.

Do you think it is best to have a smooth (leather) faced pad or a basket weave?

Thanks,
Nsiro

The two softest pads around are the Kickeez and the Gooey. Developed for trap shooters and they are available either flat or slightly curved. I really like the Gooey as it absorbs quite a bit of recoil and they come in sizes from 1/2" to 1 1/4" and a bunch of colors...some wild and some mild.

I tried a lot of different ones and finally settled for SIMS Limbsaver. Seems to make the most noticeable difference. Remington is reselling that now as their R3, at least that's what I've been told. I have not tried Kickeez or Gooey.

Gee, what a piece of wood!

It seems like someone would have made a comparison tests of all these pads by now, but maybe the rags fear ticking off any advertisers. Damping of recoil could be too subjective also, I suppose.

And it may be a function of some combination of the force and acceleration and....

Okay, forget it

I read an article a year or so ago about all the new pads. If I remember right the author liked the kick-ez the best followed by the Limb-saver and the decelerator came in third. The comparisons were for recoil reduction only. I don't think looks or longevity was taken into account.

I've a Kick-Eez in my 9,3x62 and works great!!

That piece of wood looks great!!! do you carry it with a gun case while crawling through the thorn bush???

With that wood I will be more bussy avoiding thorns from the stock than from my face

Seriously, very nice wood!!!!congrats.

I put a limb saver on my 5# 11 oz .270 sheep rifle. I really like it and will use more in the fututre. THe Kick Eez is also good. Have always used Decelerators, but I like these newer pads now.

As far as testing goes, it would require some sophisticated equipments to determine the amount of time that the recoil force was deistributed over. Plus factual tests like this do not make for interesting reading. Most of the magazine "tests" written up on anything are pretty subjective and not very well designed.

Not only does the decelerator do a spectacular job but it doesn't glare at you.....of all the people that have looked at this gun, not a single soul has ever said....."WOW, look at that great recoil pad"

It's very subtle and just sits there at the end of the stock and does it's job all day long.
