I have located a clean complete Mauser rifle, 1909 Argentine Modelo in 7.65 I believe. Anyway, it is priced at $250, serial numbers don't match on the bolt but it fits and functions well. Good markings, I am considering buying it at that price for a custom build. Is it priced fairly? I will be modifying with a custom bolt handle, safety and bottom metal.

Russell, assuming there is no pitting below the wood line, seems fair to me. Since you are only interested in the action, you can sell the barrel, stock, safety, bottom metal, etc. and end up paying well south of $200 for the action.

If it have the orginal hinged bottom metal and no pitting, I would say the price is good. Especially if it is a DWM.

If it is in nice shape with a VG+ bore and no pitting below the bore that is an excellent price.

Use the "Well the numbers dont match" and you might get a better deal. I bought one with non-matching numbers and its actually a better action then any of my matching actions, and I got it for $175.00. Wink

Russell, If it's a DWM its worth buying but I'd pass on it if it an Argentine manufactured version...only because throwing custom money at the Argentine made action is pound foolish.

Thanks for all of the responses. So even if the Mauser is marked on the side with the German info it could still be made in Argentina?

Terry,

Is this your rifle? If so what diameter is the barrel right in front of the receiver? What is the barrel torqued against?

Just curious?

The rifle is mine and the barrel is torqued. The barrel is a L/W ART#720 (very popular Mauser barrel.) L/ W say's the shank DIA. is 1.14" which I assume is big enough to seat on the action face.

I'm not in town today so I can't varify the measurement.

If my post came off as terse, please forgive me.

This was my 1st custom M98. It's chambered in 9.3X62 and so far it's been an excellent rifle.

Looks great, I really like the bases. If you get a chance when you get home, could you verify the barrel diameter for me?

Thanks

Michael Scherz (probably misspelled his last name) built them.
