If it is a Mod 70 Winchester you have the same problem that I have. The action was machined wrong. I had to use a .020 in thick shim under the rear base to get it close to square. Mine is a LH that just came from the factory a couple of months ago. To check how far off it is lay a straight edge across the scope bases. It should be fairly easy to see which one is too low. Brownells sells shims, but I did not want to put a stack of them under the base, so I made one out of stock of the correct thickness.

Yeah it is a M-70 Mule. Sonofabitch to pay $1100 for a rifle and have to deal with this crap!.............thanx............OK, I talked to Warne and they had a fix. A thicker rear base, by .025. They are experienced in dealing with this and I dont want to mess with shims. I also ordered a new scope for the rifle, just to pacify myself. Winchester hurried through this run of LHs to fast and didnt measure/polish correctly. JHook, I received mine later that I had expected and just wanted to get the scope on it so that I could shoot it and check for any other problems before the hunt. So far no other problems. Later I will get rid of the shim and replace the rear base. Does Warne make a Redfield type dovetail base for the Safari Express?
