What is required to convert browning 71 to 450’& 50 Alaskan?
Other than a properly chambered barrel, are there any internal modifications that need to be done? I believe Harold Johnson somehow clamped the magazine tube to the barrel on 50 Alaskan and 450 Alaskan conversions. Is this required for the browning model 71 as well? Thank you.

I never did the conversion. About twelve years ago I spoke with a guy I bought a modern 71 from in 450. He was told that the 450 works with little internal modification along with the barrel change. He had originally inquired about the 50 but was told it was too fat to turn the corner into the mag tube through the loading gate. The tube had to be altered to be loaded from the front like the 22's. I don't really know the validity of that but that is what I was told
