Will a Ruger #1 barrel fit a 77 tang safety action?

Specifically can I have a .45-70 #1 barrel fitted to a 7mm Mag 77 tang safety, set back a hair, and rechamber to .458 Win.?

Yes, the threads are the same. Ruger barrels are not timed anyway, and of course you will have to make it index up if you want the rib on top.
Realize that the 45-70 barrel will make a super light 458 and will kick a lot. Like, really a lot.
I'll trade you a real 458 barrel for it.....

I know of a Winchester 70A rifle running around that has a Ruger # 3 barrel on it in 375 Win.

The barrel work was the easy part, getting that dang magazine to feed 3 rounds was a whole different matter.

Things we did in our youth just because.

i saw that done .. iirc, the #1 barrel as a fat taper that will need to be addressed in the stock

Ok, and apologies to RA; I have installed many take off barrels on other actions; for various reasons; they were free, just because, put a lot of 45-70 Ruger barrels on Mosins and #1 Enfields; just to be unique. Like a 95 Steyr Straight pull with a 444 Marlin 336 barrel on it; owner killed a hog with it in Sep.
Anyway, here are the numbers for Ruger barrels; I have all the barrels: of course all are 1x16 thread.

A #1 has an extractor cut. Would that hinder?

Nope; you will face off all of it anyway; note that the thread shank of a 77 is .2 inch shorter than a #1. And the extractor cut is only .140 deep. So it will be gone.
