I've recently come into posession of a well used Browning BLR in 243 win and the idea started to go through my mind that it would make a dandy little multipurpose rifle if it were cleaned up and redone in 25 souper!!! I've never had one of these critters apart and was wondering if anyone here could shed some light on the subject of rebarreling one. Is there anything special that would cause any unusual headaches as far as installing an after market tube on one of these??? I know the BAR creates some issues, how about the design of the BLR?

Come to think of it if there's not too much trouble I know where there's a 7mm RemMag that's just dieing to become a 264 WinMag!!!

There is nothing unusual in rebarrelling a BLR. The only concern at all is to be sure the locking lugs are seated against the seats when taking the measurment for headspace. It is important to provide a slight cone at the face for feeding ease as is found on the factory barrel. There are no tricky cuts to be made so it is just like barrelling a Mauser in the end. The barrel band limits the amount that you can change the barrel contour. Regards, Bill.

Just a note, but there are two styles of BLR: the old steel frames where the bolt locks into the frame. The new aluminum ones lock into the barrel. Those would be a lot harder to rebarrel. FWIW, Dutch.
