I have a very early Weatherby Vanguard VGX which still has the customary rubber pressure pad in the barrel channel up near the sling stud common for that era. It is safe to say that i don't shoot the rifle much but my question is this, if we new about free floating over 40 40 years ago, why did gun manufacturers continue to use the rubber pad?
