Weaver large ring Mauser bases cost less than $20. You can get decent rings in the $40-$60 category. The bugger is the drill and tap and the bolt alteration and the safety switch. That's gonna run you about $200 or more plus alot of trouble. Then you have to think about what a stock is going to cost for your conversion. You'd be miles ahead buying a Mossberg .308 Patriot for $250 that comes with bases and great trigger. Then buy rings and a good scope.

The Leupold one-piece base for M98 Mauser works great for the intermediate length actions like M48 and 24/47. Bill Jacobs NRA Endowment Member US Army Veteran CWP Holder Gunsmith

For most of my rifles these days I've gone to Leupold dual dovetail bases and rings, they are slightly sculpted and very stout, not that expensive really. Another very secure method is to use Warne or Weaver Grand Slam bases (all steel) and Warne rings.
