Is my rifle strange?

it is a rem 700 ADL wood stock with plastic buttplate. s/n B66149XX. It has a purplish colored bolt handle with a smooth round knob (no checkering). The barrel seems a little heavier than a standard ADL, but is not a varmint taper by any stretch. There are no sight or sight holes in the barrel. Bolt is jeweled. I bought it like new 7 years ago and would like to know more about it. Anyone ever seen one like this? I haven't.

I ran across one in 280 Rem like that a few years ago at a pawn shop. I've also seen used CDL's with that same bolt. When your are use to the remington bolt handle, it has been a turn off for me. Didn't the Model 7 use a bolt like that at one time?

It is a .243 (now a .243AI) Says Remington Arms Co....... on the barrel

When I say I bought it like new 7 years ago, it was used and could be quite older than that. I suspect it is an older one. Any ideas on date of Mfg by the s/n?

BAOkie- I thought used CDLs were a new offering?

Thanks for the help guys. Please keep it coming!

Not sure on the CDL - maybe it was the mountain version - the stock was a classic style without white line spacers. I missed alot of the 90's with my involvement in firearms - running a business. Sure is fun being back involved.

Do you apply this coding to the s/n or is there a barrel code that I should be looking for? My barrel is upside down since it has been set back a little when rechambered to .243AI. I can take it out of the wood if necesary

I have an ADL that is as your describe, with purple /smooth bolt handle, I have had it since new, my gun was made sometime in '86, if that helps you any, I think that was around the time those bolts handles where used

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

Smooth purple bolt handles were a characteristic of the Model 78 Remington bolt rifle.
