Here is the ad from the latest Charles Daly catalog. Notice the avaible magazine lengths for a action with a .470 bolt face 2 7/8 (2.875 or 3/ 3/8 (3.375) & for the .532 bolt face a mag length of 3 11/16 (3.687). The MkX & the Mini MkX will also be available in left hand versions too & in SS! ENJOY! but don't drool on your keyboard! Keyboards & liquid don't go together! Been there done that! ------------------ [This message has been edited by Bear Claw (edited 01-23-2002).]

Thanks, Bear Claw. I think I'm going to pick up one or two of these in LH and see what they can be turned into. George ------------------

Do you know if there is a website? Where can I get information on ordering? Are they available yet, or is this just another tease? I'd love to have one of those mini-mausers for a 223. Thanks for any info- Sheister

Sheister, Brownell's has them. Just search under KBI Inc. I believe the mini's go for around $300 and the "magnum" length are about $400. That is just the action by the way. Todd E

I noticed in the text under the picture that the actions are finished in the white. How much would it cost to get it blued?.
|

Thats one heck of a price! Brownell's always seem to charge higher prices then other outlets, including with the FFL prices. I'd like one in stainless, but will look for a decent price first. ~~~Suluuq

That really make's the surplus action's worthless.

I held on of the full size actions in my hands on saturday at the gun show, with a little finish work here and there they should smooth up and be very good to build some rifles on.

EFryMan they also come blued. That pic was on the next page. I just didn't scan both pages. I agree Brownells prices has always been VERY high on actions. The best prices on MkX actions that I used to fine were from a place in the North East. In Maine I think. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Bear Claw (edited 01-23-2002).]

ALF, I am from BC Canada, where can I find one of them mini-Mauser actions?

Checking the KBI/Charles Daly website, these Zastava/Mark X action photos and specs are not up yet (the last press release is from last spring). Perhaps they will make some announcements on availability at the SHOT Show. This is the same action previously sold as the Interarms Mark X as far as I can tell. The knock on these actions in .458 Win Mag from field testing is you could not keep the magazine floor plate shut on firing. With that said, the left hand action is still a candidate for my LH stopping rifle project with suitable mods. I changed my BRNO 602 safety over to the M70 style. I would expect to do that here. jim dodd ------------------

Im curious, would you open it up for a .375 length cartridge or go with something based on the short magnum length. Although is seems to be popular to denigrate the .458 Win. Mag. these days because of factory load failures in the past, I figure one properly handloaded would still be a pretty fair thumper. I have read in other places of the LH mini action and the LH .30-06 length, but do they offer a LH Magnum action? One can find a plethora of LH actions, even some CRF (Ruger and, finally again, Winchester), but except for the rare M70 .375 or the mucho expensive Dakota there aren't a lot of readily available .375 length LH actions around. I looked on Brownell's website and can't see where they offer LH actions at all. [This message has been edited by Jim in Idaho (edited 01-24-2002).]

I bet that if the Zastava guys would offer a dropped magazine version they couldn't make um fast enough! SOMEONE OR EVERYONE SUGGEST THAT TO CHARLES DALEY AT THE SHOT SHOW!

Does anyone other than me hate the location of the floorplate release? It's in the perfect location to be mistaken for the safety from one of your other guns.

Idaho Jim, My plan is to chamber for .458 Win Mag, as that ammunition is available at affordable prices all over Africa -- or at in least safari countries. Yes there are more powerful choices sort-of available, but here is excellent is the enemy of the good. The guys I expect to sell these rifles to are using right-hand rifles now. Even older push-feed Winchesters and Remington M700 .458s. jim dodd ------------------

John, I hate that release there too but for a different reason. To inlet it, you have to have a half cylinder cut out in the stock to accomodate the part that sticks below the stock line. It can be modified by some judicous metal work to extend it above the line but it ends up away from the trigger guard. Better to have one inside the bow. Chic

They are selling these as full rifles in Austrlia and the retail for under $900 Aust. Which action long or short would be required for the 6.5X55. I would like to build a rifle in this caliber after the project I am just getting togtether. Regards PC. ------------------

A mini-mauser in 7.62x39 russian with a 20 inch barrel, COOL!

I wonder how many grandpas will buy the 7.62 X 39 Mini Mauser for their grandsons? Wouldn't you like to be one of those grandsons getting one of those rifles, a case of surplus Russian ammo and living on a ranch or farm? I hope they improve this version so it will feed better than the first mini mausers in this caliber. The first ones were converted from 223 and did not feed reliably.

As of Jan 10th, RSR Wholesalers had pricing for complete rifles in blued steel version only. Per a salesman I spoke with they had none in stock. The only left handed rifle listed (again, not in stock) was the .223 mini-mauser with a wood stock. In RH they were listing wood and synthetic stock models. He had no idea when they would be in stock, nor if they would get any stainless steel actions, nor any other left handed rifles. Other than the LH mini-mauser in .223, the Charles Daly catalog only lists a LH rifle with a wood stock, in 7mm Mag and 30-06 calibers. (Sure hope they can be a little more imaginative than that!) I emailed Brownells as all they list on their web site was RH actions, (no stainless). They told me they don't anticipate getting/stocking stainless actions or left-hand actions. So please, somebody talk to these folks at the SHOT Show about offering their actions in stainless and increasing caliber offerings in LH rifles. There is a definite need for a magnum length LH action! One other thing, seems to me the mini-mauser isn't really a true mini-mauser. I don't recall it being CRF and it has a Sako-like extractor.
