You can also go the the ATF website and it has all the info on it. You can have them send you all the forms by e-mail. Gary Rihn is right, you will be grilled. When I got my FFL I spent longer being interviewed by the ATF agent than I did being interviewed by the Defense Intelligence agent to get my top secret security clearance in the marine corps.
I have had one for some 30 years, true, its a little tougher now, both for new FFL's and the renewals, but a house cleaning was long overdue. A note, you must satisfy all local and state business and zoning laws pertaining to having an FFL or opening a shop, either retail sales or gunsmithing. Meaning a local business license, all city, county and state permits and licenses pertaining to gun work or sales, etc. Plus your shop location must satisfy local zone codes. My big pet peeve is secure storage: If you do not have a vault, or high quality gun safe (or safes) to store customers' firearms in, then start a golf pro shop. Be sure to obtain a copy of Federal and State Firearms Laws and read WELL!!!! before applying for a license, you must know just what you are getting into! Plus talk to your City Hall (if in the city) or County Court House (if in the county) and find out what laws, ordinances, etc, pertain to gun shops. Some states require a seperate state hand gun license if you deal with or work on handguns.
