Mr. Burgess (System98) will be here shortly, I would imagine...he LOVES them, and given the quality of the work he turns out, that is great praise, indeed...contact him if he does not respond in a short while for more details...good luck, Arthur

I have a custom .270 Win. with a Half-Moon barrel, and it's a real shooter. The steel seems to be quite hard, and it cleans up easily with very little jacket fouling. For whatever reason, this particular barrel is also unusually fast and forgiving, and it'll shoot most loads very well. Quite honestly, I'm not sure how you could come up with a better barrel.

Pyrotek,
Half Moon barrels are made by Jim Baiar, , Half Moon Rifle Shop , 490 Half Moon Road, Columbia Falls , MT. 59912. They are excellent barrels, one of the best.

My understanding is that our local Buchsenmachermeister George Hoenig (creator of the "Rotary Round" double actions) uses Jim's 9.3 barrels in his work. I spoke with Jim a few weeks back about his barrels and the largest bore he is tooled up for is .404 Jeffery at the moment.

JP, would that be the .423 bore for the .404 Jeffery?

RecoilRob,
Nope - from what I remember .424" groove diameter and I think Jim said .414" land diameter, BUT best to check with Jim Baer on this (406)892-4409 ...Going from memory here. I believe he made his .404 Jeff barrels with taller lands than my barrel.

I've talked with Dave Kiff last week on how he sets up his chambering reamers and he informed me that he finishes to the CIP 90 06 (Jun 13 1990) standard which has no freebore but specs .424 at the start of the leade. So I suspect this is the "why". The question I have is where does one find a .424" bullet? I also was faxed a print from the gal at Dave Manson and his reamer is darn near identical (solid pilot diams differ by .0002" & leade is 4 minutes different) for these dimensions as well. I'm happy with a .423" groove diameter for this reason - just as ol' Ray recommended all along!

I believe them to be of highest quality in any event and may use one on a 9.3x64 Brennke shortly.
