I had a sporterized 91 that I bought with scope mounted. The safety had been modified with a piece of welding rod tacked to it so that it would stick around the scope to be manipulated. One did not have full use of the safety.

Frankly, it was crap. Not the gun, the safety mod. I mounted a Williams FP bought a new safety lever from Numrich (now Gun Parts Corp.) and never looked back. I'd still have that gun if I hadn't been divorced.

I now have a M91 Carbine in full military dress. The turned down bolt handle is a good thing. If this wasn't a possible collectible, I'd mount a Williams on this one, too.

There are better actions but for me, none more fun.

Many years ago I modified a 93 Mauser safety with a tab
added to the left side of the safety (after cutting the exixting tab). It allows two positions of safety, the bolt will no longer lock. It is still in use.
Good luck!
