how important is it to lap the ring before installing a scope?

It does a couple things for you... One...lapping removes high spots in the I.D. of the rings that will mark your scope and reduce re-sale value Two...in will help in very small alignment problems I do it every time.....but some never do it and have no problems at all. ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

It does one more thing, it makes you appreciate reamers designed for truing rings a lot more. Okay, it does a couple more things, it increases the grip area which reduces scope slippage, and it reduces optical tube distortion due to scope tube binding. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. I do lap, on occasion. I prefer to bed the scope to the rings. 100% contact and no torque. Jim Kobe 10841 Oxborough Ave So Bloomington MN 55437 952.884.6031 Professional member American Custom Gunmakers Guild
