It does a couple things for you...

One...lapping removes high spots in the I.D. of the rings that will mark your scope and reduce re-sale value

Two...in will help in very small alignment problems

I do it every time.....but some never do it and have no problems at all.

It does one more thing, it makes you appreciate reamers designed for truing rings a lot more. Big Grin

Okay, it does a couple more things, it increases the grip area which reduces scope slippage, and it reduces optical tube distortion due to scope tube binding.

I do lap, on occasion. I prefer to bed the scope to the rings. 100% contact and no torque.
