Changing a Mauser from 8mm to 9.3x62

Recoil RobChanging a Mauser from 8mm to 9.3x62
I have an 8mm guild gun that I'm considering reboring and rechambering to 9.3x62.
I have read that to optimize the cartridge feeding I should switch the magazine and follower to one specifically designed for that cartridge.
Is there a source for the different magazines and followers?
Thanks, Rob

jeffeossoRob,
rebore and rechamber, should be 98% of the way there, as it is the same case, just longer. BobC had one done to 35 whelan, which is VERY nice.
mag should work
follower should work
rebore/rechamber should work
worst case, send the rifle an a check to Dennis Olson for final feeding

Just to be safe, you are talking about a M98 guild gun aren't you? I personally haven't seen a lot of German ones made on 98's. Seems like the heyday of German guild guns was during a period when most cottage smiths were using older designs available cheaply as surplus. I have one really beautiful 8x57JS made on an M88 commission action. I wouldn't convert anything earlier than an M98 to 9.3x62,

Is not.
Case dimensions are different. Not much, and it may well work in an individual gun without change, but the 9,3x62 case is different in width and rim dimensions from the 8x57 IS.
Have an experienced Mauser gunsmith look after the follower and the magazine rails of the receiver. With different (!) brands of ammo.

The difference in the cases is so little that it's highly unlikely that anything will have to be changed or altered....I agree with Jeffe here.

Recoil RobI appreciate the input but I know that Mauser made different magazines and followers for different cartridges. Is there a source for these? Seems much easier to get the mag and follower and than to have work done on the gun.

tiggertateIn a word, no. Today's aftermarket bottom parts are built for classes of cartridges, not individual rounds like genuine Mausers were in days past (or for big bucks today). But I agree with the folks who say it is more likely than not that your 8MM will feed 9.3 x 62 as long as the box is long enough. Stick five 30-06 rounds (better yet five 35 Whelens) in it and see how they ride.
If they slip in and feel right in the box, don't buy anything until you get it rebored and chambered. You may be home free.
"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Recoil RobWill do, have some .35 Whelens to try.
